EIP Michigan Traffic School

State of Michigan BDIC

State of Michigan BDIC (Basic Driver Improvement Course)

About the course:

EIP, one of Michigan’s first Basic Driver Improvement Course (BDIC) providers, is offering the defensive driving course in both a class room setting and online. Not only will you avoid costly new points on your driving record and you will become a better driver through this educational program.
Studies have shown that over 70% of the drivers who participated in a driver safety training program had zero future collisions and violations over a nine-year period. Click here to view eligibility

In the course, you will learn:

  1. Defensive driving strategies and techniques to reduce the chance of collision
  2. How drugs, alcohol, physical conditions and emotions affect driving decisions
  3. How to deal with driver distractions and fatigue
  4. Physical forces of a collision
  5. The importance of occupant safety devices and how to use them correctly
Why is the BDIC such a “big deal”
Finally, Michigan joins states like Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Massachusetts, and Texas, just to name a few, that offer defensive driving education in exchange for ticket dismissal and point avoidance.
Beginning December 31, 2010, if a Michigan driver receives a traffic ticket, the driver may be eligible (based on their driving record) to take a Basic Driver Improvement Course. The driver still pays the fine for their ticket. However, if they opt to take the Basic Driver Improvement Course the points or information about the violation will not be transferred to their driving record or disclosed to insurance companies.
It’s a win-win for Michigan drivers who could save money by avoiding increased insurance rates and driver responsibility fees. Plus, an independent study shows positive results for drivers that participate in and successfully pass a Basic Driver Improvement Course.
